Which London shared Christmas parties have a live band?
Most of the ballroom and large-production parties. Highlights: Motown Extravaganza (a full live Motown set from 10pm), Skyball and Skyball Syon Park (live 007 soundtracks over dinner), Gatsby's Grand Soirée (modern songs reimagined as 1920s jazz), Carnivale (a live six-piece band) and Winters of the World (après-ski bands from the French Alps).
A live band does something a DJ cannot: it gives the room a focal point and a shared moment. It is also the difference most guests actually notice — the entertainment line on the invoice that people mention afterwards.
The bands at these parties are not background. At Motown Extravaganza the band plays a full set from 10pm to midnight with dancefloor performances. At Carnivale the six-piece runs alongside acrobats and aerialists. Skyball's Bond tribute band plays through dinner, which sets the tone before the party starts.

- What time do the bands play?
- Most run from 10pm to midnight, with background music or a DJ afterwards until the bar closes. Wonder Nights and Disco Nights start their bands earlier, at 21:30, with a DJ taking over at 23:00. Cirque de Noël's band plays 21:35 to 22:20 before the DJ.
- Which shared Christmas party has the best music?
